There was a TON of energy out in the field today, as we had a full crew of working shareholders and labor support members of all ages. One of the unique aspects of the operation at Spoutwood Farm is the contribution of our members to plant, weed, and especially harvest the produce. Each harvest day is a surprise -- we never know exactly who we're going to have bunching your beets. Which means we never know which direction the lively conversation is going to take. A constantly changing crew is a tradeoff for having a standard crew who can get that bunch exactly right every time........but it's one we definitely can live with.
A quick note on receiving your produce in this scorching heat we're experiencing at the moment: Should you receive your vegetables in slightly wilted condition, a quick plunge in cold water when you get home will perk them right up. We're taking measures to keep them as fresh as possible for as long as possible, but this heat makes it challenging.
Some of you will be receiving peas this week, and some kohlrabi. We're keeping track. The next time we harvest kohlrabi, those who don't receive today will then. And next week we're aiming to get peas in every bag!!!
