CSA Harvest Guide : July 19
Even with these record breaking temperatures and low rainfall, prepare for a gorgeously generous harvest bag on Thursday. A huge Thank You goes out to our Labor Support Shareholders Rachael, Maya and their friend, Felix, who helped the three of us dig up a big start to our potato harvest. Not only do they get to enjoy fresh potatoes that they helped to harvest, but they also get to enjoy the lettuce that they helped transplant last month, which you will be receiving as well. They make out to be a dynamite trio and really keep the spirits high...Thanks ladies!
We struck rich with Yukon Gold!

In front: Quentin, Maya, Felix; In back: Brett and Rachael
We didn't, however, strike rich this past weekend during the planned CSA work day...which was cancelled due to very little interest. Seriously folks, we need your help over the next 5 to 6 weeks! The next and final weekend Work Day for the season is August 4th, so mark it on your calendars now and let's not let what happened last weekend repeat!

FREE Sneak Film Showing (Prior to Distribution)
A Fierce Green Fire
(The Battle for a Living Planet)
Wednesday, July 25 7pm FREE Spoutwood Farm, Glen Rock, PA
Click Here to go to the film's website and watch the trailer.
A FIERCE GREEN FIRE: The Battle For a Living Planet is the first big-picture exploration of the environmental movement – grassroots and global activism spanning fifty years from conservation to climate change. From halting dams in the Grand Canyon to battling 20,000 tons of toxic waste at Love Canal; from Greenpeace saving the whales to Chico Mendes and the rubbertappers saving the Amazon; from climate change to the promise of transforming our civilization... the film tells vivid stories about people fighting – and succeeding – against enormous odds.
A Fierce Green Fire premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and is playing festivals around the world. Plans are for a broad release in the fall of 2012. The film is now being completed. We're recording final narration with five narrators, including Robert Redford, Meryl Streep and Ashley Judd. We're also adding to the ending - a call to action featuring activists of today.
"Oscar-nominated filmmaker Mark Kitchell (Berkeley in the Sixties) winningly spans the broad scope of environmental history in this comprehensive doc, connecting its origins with the variety of issues still challenging society today." - Justin Lowe, The Hollywood Reporter
"The material is vast, and it's an incredibly dynamic film. It's shaping up to be the documentary of record on the environmental movement. I think it'll be hugely successful." – Cara Mertes, Director, Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program |

CSA Harvest Guide : July 12

Great day, folks! We spent our morning trimming and prepping the harvested garlic to be hung to dry over the next several weeks. Not only did it smell good, but they look fabulous. Even Rob, the owner, is betting on these to be the largest Spoutwood garlic cloves yet!

And here are the latest colors of our flower garden. Something about their vibrancy and extraordinary shapes puts a big smile on my face. When you stand in the middle and look towards the top layer of flowers all around, it is as if there's a sea of fluttering busybodies rising and falling with the wind to catch every last flowering bud of nectar. What a sight.
Remember...these are YOUR flowers...we don't have enough to add them to a weekly harvest, but they are here for the picking....come make a bouquet!

This week, expect to find the following items: Zucchini, Summer Squash, Cucumber, Carrot, Swiss Chard and Green Beans. You will also receive an herb, but they're currently in a race to see who will be the chosen one tomorrow morning...you're in for a surprise! It will probably not be basil, but if you're a basil lover such as myself, or would enjoy making your own pesto, stop by and harvest as much of it as you want...it just keeps growing!
This Saturday is also our next Work Day from 8AM to 4PM.
To those of you still needing to work a few hours, keep in mind this is our second to LAST Saturday work day for the year. This is also the peak of our workload this year, so any help is not just appreciated, it is desperately needed. Contact Brett by Friday evening if you are planning on coming out and thanks much in advance.
Peace & Enjoy the Goods!
